My Favourites of 2008

Well the year is quickly coming to an end and all i can say is what a great year it was for music.

Today ive decided to create a list of my favourite albums and bands of 2008.

Here they are!

(In no particular order)

1. As Winter Burns White
I was told by a friend to listen to this band so I bought their 2008 Demo and WOW.
The band formed early in the year and quickly recorded this demo only several weeks later.
To me that is simply amazing considering the quality of this demo, it is mostly deathcore/ metalcore and is just pure brutal.

2. The Irish Front- Universe
I love this album!
After listening to older songs by them i just couldnt wait until this full length was released and it was definately worth the wait.

3. Sink or Swim- Demo
Being an Australian i just couldnt resist buying the demo from this aussie hxc band.
It is a great effort and i cant wait to see what they release in the future.

4. Here Comes The Kraken
Awesome deathcore band and amazing guitar work throughout.

5. Sleep Serapis, Sleep!- EP
I cant stop playing this album. Lately i must admit i have been getting somewhat bored of most metalcore but this is a great album.

6. Austrian Death Machine
When I heard Tim from As I Lay Dying had a side project based on Arnold Scwarzenegger i knew i had to listen to it.
Not suprisingly it is a very good album and further proves taht Tim is a great musician.
heck, the man can even make awesome metalcore using Arnie =)

Well thats just a small list and soon i will be adding my all my top 10's of the year which will include albums, bands, songs, etc.

So stay tuned!
(And stay brutal)

Unconsecrated- The Red Shore

acovtid65118eq8.jpg

Despite recent tragedies that would have ended most bands, The Red Shore have battled on to create this full length masterpiece.

While they originally were apart of the hardcore scene they are now straight up metal.
During the recording of this album I was worried that this album might not be all it is hyped up to be after all the recent changes but its has completely exceeded my expectations, they have produced an amazing technical death metal sound which lies between Decapitated and The Black Dahlia Murder.

The level of musicianship displayed on the album is very good.
Jamie presents good screams and decent growls, the guitar work is very technical and provides some suprising moments here and there. The bass is quite out of the ordinary and the drums present a full on attack loaded with talent.
However i still find that many parts of this album sound too similar which can become boring.

Although this album is quite short at just 34 minutes it  is a very good listen and shows that this band will have a positive looking future.
If you're a fan of deathcore or death metal you will love this album.

Score: 8.2/10

Dead Man Walking EP- Sleep Serapis, Sleep!

Well i decided to pick up this EP from Milwaukee metallers Sleep Serapis, Sleep!

At first i was expecting this to be just another metalcore album that will sound like the rest but it is definately not. Straight from the word go you just get a feeling this album is going to be good.
The intro song Dead Man Walking is a perfect start to this album, its sums the whole album up in just over a minute. Its heavy, fast, and quite unique to most metalcore you will hear these days.

The songs are written very well and this is an album you will want to keep on listening to.
if youre a Bring Me The Horizon fan you will like this album as Mike Cattani has a very similar vocal style.
I feel Julian and Roy have done extremely well on guitars, they have produced some very hard hitting riffs that can be heard all throughout the album.

Well this is just a short summary of the album but I would definately recommend this album to any fans of Hardcore music.

Score: 8.6/10
